Colgate Dominates!
I finally got to see Colgate play today as the Division I-AA semifinal playoff game was on ESPN 2. I TiVO'ed the game and just finished watching the huge win over Florida Atlantic. Colgate utterly dominated the first half. They had the ball for 21:28 of the 30 minute first half going to halftime with a 23 - 7 lead. Their running back, Jamaal Branch, rushed for his 29th rushing touchdown of the year, a Division I-AA record. Every Florida possession of the first half ended with a punt except for their touchdown drive off of a Colgate interception, really the only mistake made by Colgate in the half.
It only continued the second half. The quarterback, Chris Brown, was everywhere running passing and scoring (3 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD). Branched ended his storybook day by breaking the Division I-AA record for rushing with 2,271 yards and Colgate was the winner 36 - 24.
Colgate will play Delaware in the National Championship game on Friday, December 19 at 7:00 PM ET. The game will be televised on ESPN 2.
Update: Here is the Colgate game story, the ESPN game story, the Utica Observer-Dispatch game story, and the Syracuse Post-Standard game story.
Update: Well, it looks like Blogger mangled this post. I rewrote the second half (and it's definitely not as good as it was). I'll now save the BBEdit files I use to write the posts!
