The End of an Era in Seattle
For the first time since Ken Griffey Jr.'s rookie year in 1989, the Mariners will not have a superior center fielder as the Mariners elected not to offer arbitration to Mike Cameron. As usual the U.S.S. Mariner has this covered.
Cameron replaced Griffey in center field in the 2000 season, and while he certainly did not have the same offence, his contribution as a fielder is unquestioned. The M's pitching staff cannot like this situation at all as Randy Winn now moves to center and Raul Ibanez takes up left. The pitchers ERA will be effected by this and, while I certainly hope I am wrong, I just don't see Ibanez hitting all that much better in Safeco than Cameron did. Now I will hope with all my heart that Cameron does not end up on the A's.
