Go 'Gate!

I really haven't followed the teams of my undergrad and grad schools much since moving to Seattle but it's hard to not jump on the Colgate Football bandwagon. After going 11-0 in the Patriot League they are in the NCAA Division I-AA football playoffs. Last Saturday they beat UMass in the apocalyptic "Mike Houser's Alma Matars Bowl." Yesterday Colgate beat Western Illinois 28-27. They were down 21-27 with 3:00 to go and drove for a touchdown to take a one point lead. Western Illinois had one more chance but Colgate intercepted a pass to end the game. See here and here for more details.

Next Saturday Colgate plays in the national semi-final game at Florida Atlantic. This should be quite a change in weather as Colgate has won their last two games at home in central New York state both in heavy snow storms.

At 14-0 now on the year Colgate is the current holder of the longest winning streak in the country at 20 wins. These are Patriot League records for winning streak and wins in a season.

Colgate has not has this kind of sports success since I was going to school there and the 1990 hockey team got to the national final game. That was an amazing run that got the school really charged up and I imagine the same is happening now. I hope to see the game next week on TV.
